So yesterday was fairly
eventful because we had the opportunity to hear from Elder Perkins from
the first quorum of the 70! He spoke to all the mission leadership
(zone leaders, sister-training leaders, and district leaders). I loved
the training he gave. We also had the opportunity to hear from the CEO
of Wendy's, but it just isn't the same as someone who speaks with the
power of the Holy Ghost. Here are a few insights:
It is interesting how guided the general authorities
are. There were a few instances where Elder Perkins interrupted Pres.
Nilsen and gave a spill on something. One thing that really stood out to
me is when he spoke about the guilt of error and sin.
He said that many times we make mistakes, or
errors, and we stress that we have committed a sin. When in reality it
was simply an error. When such an error occurs the guilt that is
associated with such comes from the adversary. He wants us to feel bad
about ourselves, and to stress. He wants us to feel like we have failed,
even when in reality we really have not failed. These feelings of guilt
for errors is something we must strive to be rid of.
On the flip side there is a type of guilt
which is divine, and that is the guilt that comes from doing something
contrary to the commandments of God. This is the feeling of Godly sorrow
that leads us to repentance, it allows us to use the atonement in our
lives.
I decided I too often feel the guilt of
errors. I remember that President Hinkley at one time, in some talk,
explained that we have to learn to laugh at ourselves at times when we
make such errors. This is something I would like to work on.
It was kind of amusing when, after Elder Perkins
explained these principles, he said, "You may hear a general conference
talk about this in the future." Not everyone can say that.
President Nilsen spoke a lot about asking inspired questions
which was also very beneficial (Read Alma 5 and see how many inspired
questions the prophet Alma asks when he is teaching) and The CEO of
Wendy's mainly just answered a lot of random questions about leadership.
He also spoke about what a servant leader is.
Overall it was a great training.
In
our area we are really trying to get a family of three baptized. The
mom is totally on board and intends on being baptized on the 21st of
June. Now the hang up is getting her divorce papers finalized, and then
married to the man she is living with. She says that we can make it
happen so we are going for it. I have never had an investigator that I
have been able to convince to get married yet on my mission so this is
kind of a new ball game.
Speaking of ball games every Saturday there is a
baseball game that we hold for all of our investigators and a few
members come to fellowship. We have a blast, plus I love brushing up on
my rusty American baseball skills.
Thanks for committing to write some more letters
this summer. I will hold you to it. I did get my new shoes. Thank you so
much they are perfect. I picked it up yesterday at the mission office
when we went to get all of our missionary supplies for the zone (BOM's,
pass along cards, etc . . ). A lot of times the mission office will hold
on to packages if there is a training coming up so they do not have to
ship it, instead they hand them out at the training.
By the way I love the pictures of Mom, Dad, and Sadie near the Logan temple. Not to mention that snazzy car!
Love ya always!
