Greetings from the Great OCM!
So, Mission Leadership Council this last week was amazing. New mission
president and new things headed our way. The church worldwide has
changed our motto as missionaries from Find Teach and Baptize, to Find,
Teach, Baptize, Retain, and Reactivate. They have changed it so that
missionaries are now required to teach lesson 5 before baptism. I have
never taught lesson 5 before!
So the new mission president . . . . . Awesome
At
the beginning of MLC we got together and began setting goals for our
individual zones. Then, all the leaders totaled the individual goals and
it equaled some crazy high number for the mission monthly baptism
goal (we have never achieved more than 61 baptisms per
month and the mission goal ended up being around 75). The assistants
were all gung ho about it and then President Daines stood and spoke to
us.
Who here feels that we can reach 75 baptism this
next month? He asked. Almost no one raised their hands. After observing
the lack of hands he turned to the assistants and said, "That goal will
not be accomplished."
He taught us about the difference between inspired
goals and just goals. He boldly said "Anyone can add up a column and I
do not need zone leaders who add up columns; I need leaders who set
inspired goals." It was the most motivating speech about goals I have
ever heard. He continued to tell us that goals often do not add up when
they are inspired. For instance there are 10 zones in the mission and
although each zone has an individual baptism goal for the next quarter,
that does not mean that if we add up 10 zones' goal, that it should be
the mission goal. So we set a realistic, measurable goal as a mission.
It has to be a goal that Everyone is uncomfortably in agreement with, president said.
So
all in all we have an awesome mission president, and he has inspired me
to set more goals for my mission and life. I want to be a goal oriented
person aka, a successful person.
We had a wonderful week this last week indicator
wise. My awesome companion went out and found a family last Monday when
we were on splits! We are going to do service for them tonight and I
can't wait to meet them. We also found a part member family, and started
teaching a member's boyfriend who came to church yesterday. This week
will be eventful too with stake president reports and interviews with
president.
I love my family! I almost died laughing when I saw
that picture Cari sent me. It looks more like the Adam's family! I can't
wait to spend eternity with you guys.
